How Voiceflow Tokens work
Voiceflow Tokens can be purchased at the following rate:
💲 1 VF Token = $0.005, with costs decreasing with volume
Voiceflow Tokens are consumed every bot interaction.
~1 VFT = 1 bot interaction + AI model token cost that will be an updated-regularly conversion of the vendor’s listed token price
Here's an explainer of how interactions work in Voiceflow.
Example
Lets walk through an example to understand what this would look like for a simple assistant:
Conversation Starts: Conversation is initiated and the bot sends welcome message to user (no AI used)
- Bot: Welcome to our AI Agent! How can I help you?
User Responds: User asks a question, the bot uses the knowledge base to return an AI generated answer
- User: What is your return policy?
- Bot: All items can be returned within a 30 day grace period. Items should still be in their original packaging.
- Bot: Is there anything else I can help with?
In this example, the user has started a conversation and asked a question. The bot has processed the question, used AI to look through the knowledge base and provide an answer, then sends the answer to the user along with a follow up message.
Outcome: The total number of VF Tokens used in this conversation is 2.25 VF Tokens.
Should I expect changes?
Customers should expect to see their monthly AI token cost decrease as prices are made 1:1 through VFTs, and their plan price remains the same. We’ve also separated Input from Output costs to accurately reflect AI model costs, further lowering the cost of AI tokens on Voiceflow.
All Voiceflow pricing plans come with a baseline amount of VFT tokens that refill monthly. Further VFTs can be purchased on subscription as well to avoid the need for manual refills.
For the small number of customers who exceed their plan’s default monthly VFT token usage, we’ve reached out 1:1 via email to setup calls and understand how best we can support you.
Included VFTs by plan
You can purchase more VFTs as you need, similar to tools like Twilio, Segment, and Zapier.
Other FAQ
What is an interaction?
An interaction is whenever the agent sends the user a message. This happens:
- When the conversation starts
- When the agent completes a conversation turn (i.e., takes a question and responds)
How many VF Tokens does a conversation use on average?
We see that conversations on average use roughly 10 VF tokens. This can vary based on how many AI steps and what models you use in your conversation.
My agent sends multiple messages in a response - does that count as multiple interactions?
No. It does not matter how many messages are in a response. The entire response will count as 1 interaction. For example if the bot responds with 2 messages and an image, that only counts as one (1) interaction.
See the video below for more details:
Do I get charged when I use APIs on the canvas?
No. You are only charged for interactions. If a user asks your bot a question, and you make 3 different API calls before sending a response - that is still only 1 interaction. It does not matter how complex or how many steps are involved in a response.
Will I be able to see how many interactions and AI each agent is using?
Yes. Each Agent will have their own dashboard to display how many Interactions and AI tokens they are using. You will also be able to see this at a workspace level prior to being billing.
How can I buy interactions?
Interactions can be purchased upfront in monthly bundles or you can pay as you go as a slightly higher rate. We recommend launching your assistant to production first to figure out what volume package makes sense for you. Then adding it onto your plan to lock in a cheaper rate.
